The Question That Many Are Asking - A Behind The Scenes Look at AWI

Remember Animated Wrestling Incorporated, the Parody show of MVWL? Good. Well, a ton of you were wondering Why all of the matches were cut from those "Tapes"? 

Well, I'm hear to answer that very question. Y'see there are 2 Answers to this - An In-Universe one and a Real Life one.

The In-Universe explanation is that the tapes are actually Copies and that these copies lack the matches,because the person recording the copies didn't like the matches, but loved the personalities. Stupid reason,I know.

Now the Real Life reason is some behind the scenes info. Y'see it would be very difficult to inject a Live Modern Wrestling Audience into an 80's/90's Wrestling Show. We wanted to be authentic in our presentation, despite how fake the show was. This was something we didn't wanna waste time doing, so we left the matches out. 

So...now you know.Why the AWi tapes lack the matches.   

Animated Wrestling Inc. Tape 3 - 1992

May 1992

This is the 3rd Tape found and earliest known footage of Animated Wrestling Inc.

After the intro (which is just tbe logo with some tbeme muaic),We are greeted by Commentators Amara Tenrek and Remington "the Face" Peck,who are in a behind a desk in a small studio. Tenrek welcomes us to Animated Wrestling Inc,brought to us by PTV,Public Access Television Channel 56, in Staten Island,NY.

Tenrek introduces herself and then her co-host,"The Face" Remington Peck. After introductions,Tenrek announces today's matches: For the openning bout,The Bronx Battler will be taking on Chio Fernandez. Then we have some tag competition as AWI Tag Champions The Einstieners,Haim and Shuki,will be taking on The Cell Blockers,Robbing Rob and Stabber Lee. Following that match,The Bikers,Rider Michaels and Roadie Jennetty will be facing The Bayou Barons,Zulu and Zenetti. And for our Main Event,AWI TV Champion Brad "Sane Man" Heartland will put his title on tbe line against The Reaper. Plus,Witch Wanda will be in action.

We are taken to AWI Correspondent,Mike Rofone,who's with AWI Champion,Malcomania,who's currently feuding with Herc-Man. After that interview,we get a promo from Herc-Man.

We then cut back to the announcers desk,skipping over the first match entirly. Infact ALL Matches on this tape weren't recorded. Anyway,before we go to the next match,we get promos from The Reaper and his manager Mortician Addams,as well as The Reaper's current nemesis,Heavy Hal (with his manager uptown brutus),who's stolen The Reaper's Scythe

After the next match,We get a promo from "Sane Man" Brad Heartland,who is annoyed that he has to face,The Creepo Man,yet another cartoony wrestler and laments on how he's the Only serious Wrestler here. He admits that he's only staying here in AWI,because he owes PTV Producer Phil,a debt. He then changes the subject to his match with The Creepo Man.

After that Promo,we (don't go) to the next match. After that [unrecorded] match,we get another promo from IRS Iris who wants to reposess Power Princess' "Power Sword" for "Unpaid Interest". We then get a counter-promo from Power Princess.

After another,unrecorded match,The Bayou Barons and The Cell Blockers each cut promos. Backatage,The Bikers are upset about their loss,Rodie Jennetty blames Rider Michaels for the loss and after some arguing,Rodie assaults Rider and leaves him beaten.

After the Match,Elle Rae Duke visits the Announce Desk and issues a greater challenge to Witchy Wanda for next week. After that we go to our next 2 matches (no we don't!)

Back at the announce desk,Peck introduces the Main Event of the show: Brad Heartland v The Creepo Man.

We jump to after The Main Event,where Tenrek closes out the show. Instead of fading to black or rolling the credits,Joe the Cameraman pre-maturly leaves...leaving the camera on...without Tenrek and Peck's knowlage.

So the 2 Commentators start to make casual conversation,unaware that the camera is still on and the folks at home are still watching. Soon they start talking about Their Boss,Mr.Bullock's,"Power Pill" Trial.

They continue talking about it and Peck wonders what's gonna happen to AWI if Mr. Bullock is found guilty and thrown in jail? Tenrek tells him that PTV has a back-up plan just in case. PTV plans on bringin' in Sheriff Ted Volts to take control of the show. And that he'd likely turn it into another 'Southpaw Regional Wrestling'.

The 2 talk about the future of AWI some more,when Joe returns and realizes that be left tbe camera on. He tells the Commentators about his blunder. The Commentators are shocked and quickly tell the audience to "forget what you just heard!!" Joe turns off the camera and everything goes to black.

The tape is manually stopped before the rest of the tapes content can be shown.

Animated Wrestling Inc. Tape 2 - 1997 and 1998

May 1997

This is the 1st part of tbe 2nd tape.

Like with the previous tape,All matches,for whatever reason,were never recorded on the tape.

After the intro (which is just tbe logo with some tbeme muaic),We are greeted by Commentators Amara Tenrek and Memphis,who are in a behind a desk in a small studio. Tenrek welcomes us to Animated Wrestling Inc,brought to us by PTV,Public Access Television Channel 56, in Staten Island,NY.

She then introduces herself and Memphis,before talking about todays broadcast. She then introduces the 1st match: Jarvis and Bone-Head taking on Tbe Hell-Billies.

After the (unseen) match,we are taken backstage with Zack Lawrence,who's standing by with The Grungers,Rip and Noize,2 over-the-top grunge rockers.

The next segment takes place in a boiler room,where Maniac Mick cuts a promo. He then challenges the Reaper to a Boiler Room Match.He,unlike most,doesn't fear The Grim Reaper. In fact,he Enjoys beating it up.

We then skip  another (Unseen,UnRecorded) Match and go straight to an interview with "The Ramblin' Redneck" Mike Dallas,who's wild incoherent babbling makes it very tough for anyone to understand him. He's currently feuding with Brad Heartland.

After the interview,we cut back to the Announce desk,where Tenrek talks about AWI's newest star: Cory Runner,who we get a promo from. Cory Runner's mission is to be tbe Self-Appointed Sherif of The AWI,stopping "Wrestle Crime" when it happens,in or out of the ring. He's got the Ultimate World Order especially on notice.

Next are a couple of matches..which we never get to see,since they were never recorded.

So we cut to the locker room instead,where Dexter Poindexter,who hasn't won a match since January of '96,is tired losing. So he takes out a vile of liquid,drinks it. And after shaking violently,he changes from Lord of Nerds to King of Cool.

We cut back to the desk,where Amara Tenrek and Memphis can't believe what tbey had just witnessed. The wonder how this new persona of Poindexter's will effect his chances of success?

We soon cut to static. When the static ends we get the Ultimate World Order (uWo) logo with the following message "Tbe Following Announcement has been paid for by The Ultimate World Order" We then cut to AWI Champion Broadway Malcomania and fellow uWo members,AWI TV Champion Rider Michaels,and Tag Team Champions Mack Trucker and Ray Maccio.

The uWo Members cut promos,though Malcomania sings his. After the promos are done we get tbe uWo logo again and "The Preseeding Anounceme t has been paid for by The Ultimate World Order"

After another round of static,we are taken back to the Announcers desk. Tenrek and Memphis talk about tbe uWo and their intentions to take over AWI and PTV. After that,they introduce the next match: Jungle Woman She-Na-La taking on Elle Rae Duke.

We skip that match and go straight to the backstage area,where Zack Lawrence is interviewing Mason Domination,who turns the interview into one of his overdone Black Power speeches.

We then cut back to the announce desk,where Tennoh and Memphis are talking about the upcoming Women's Battle Royal to determine the next #1 contender for The Warrior Queen's Title,hich will happen next week. We then here from a few of the pqrticipents.

We get promos from Crazy Hilbilly Elle Rae Duke,Jungle Woman She-Na La, Millitary commander Sgt.Sonya,and Berserkette,the shy woman who can turn into a rage machine when provoked.

Back at the desk,Tenrek also name drops a few other participents: Sabrina the Sorceress,Miss Tifa,former Wrestle Ranger Amy Johnson,and Big Bertha. Memphis still wonders How AWI is able to afford that many wrestlers. Tenrek chooses to ignore the question and tells everyone that Zack Lawrence is standing by with The Marsh Family

Backstage,Zack Lawrence is interviewing Swampy and Stinky,the Marsh Family. During the interview,These Nasty Bayou Backwoodsman challenge Trucker and Maccio for the Tag Titles. Another thing to note is that Stinky lives up to his name,emitting a gross stench from his body.

They are interuppted by 2 over-the-top (and a bit stereotypical) Mexican/Latino Thugs. They are Juan and Esteban,Los Super Banditos. The 2 teams eventually end up in a brawl.

Then we get another unseen match. After that we go back to the commentators desk,where it is revealed that Los Super Banditos will be fighting The Marsh Family in a #1 contenders match next week. Next we go to another match,which we never get to see,so instead we cut to AWI Womens Champion,The Warrior Queen,a Xena Expy,cutting a promo.

Back at the desk,Tenrek introduces the next match: The New Wrestle Rangers Selwyn and Roger taking on The Cartoon Maniacs.

With the match cut from the tape,We jump to the backstage area where The Reaper is cutting a promo. The Reaper accepts Maniac Mick's Challenge.

Back at the Announcers desk,Tenrek and Memphis chat a bit before introducing the shows Main Event: Brad Heartland going one-on-one with One half of the Tag Champions,the uWo's Mack Trucker.

We cut back to the Announce desk,where Tenrek closes out the show. Soon the tape transitions to a September 1998 show.

This is the 2nd part of the 2nd tape.

After the intro (which is just tbe logo with some tbeme muaic),We are greeted by Commentators Amara Tenrek and Ralph Woodman,who are in a behind a desk in a small studio. Tenrek welcomes us to Animated Wrestling Inc.

Phil the producer comes in an hands Tenrek a note. Tenrek reads the note and is surprised at what it says. Apparently,according to the note,This will be AWI's final show. PTV executives have decided to pull the plug. The reason: Costs. However,the note Does say that they can finish up the day. The talk about Summer Sizziler '98,which happened a few weeks ago. The Ramblin' Redneck Mike Dallas successfuly defended his AWI championship against the man we are about to hear from.

"Roidenator" Haim Einsteiner cuts a promo raging against his AWI Title match loss at Summer Sizzler '98. He even makes threats to The Rablin' Redneck himself.

Val Lei arrives and tries to seduce Einstiener,however he's in no mood to have fun with hoochies and leaves. Dejected,Val Lei is about to leave to find another man,however the lights flash on and off and once they return,The Horror Wrestler Damnation appears and is about to strike her (from her perspective). The lights go out just before Val is attacked. An evil laugh can be heard along with a demonic voice saying "You're Next,Reaper!"

Back at the desk,Tenrek and talk about Damnation and his victims. They then talk about how "Vampire Pimp" Poppa Pimpula and Maniac Mick were his last 2 victims. Who and When this Monater will strike next is forever unknown.

The 2 commentators switch gears by taking us to the first match: The Womanizers taking on The Hell-billies.

The match has been ommited from the tape,so we transition back to the desk. Tenrek and Woodman chat qbout the cancelation of tbe show. They then get a visit from Chip and Lan,The Online Express,who are also tbe New AWI Tag Champions,winning them from The uWo's Mack Trucker and The Wise Guy at Summer Sizzler '98.

Scotty and Perry,Extreme X,arrive to challenge for the Tag Titles. The Online Express accept tbe challenge and are assaulted by Extreme X. Extreme X Power Bombs the Express through the Announce Table,thankfully Tenrek and Woodman have moved out of tbe way. Tenrek tells the producer to go to the next match.

No Matches on this Tape,so we cut to Tenrek and Woodman,who are now juat sitting in chairs,the broken table removed. After talking about the altercation between Xtreme X and the Online Express,they talk about the Main Event, a Triple Threat Match for the AWI Women's Championship. Champion The Warrior Queen faces off against Bloody Mary-Anne and Koria. We then get promos from all 3 participents (which were thankfully,recorded on the tape)

After the Promos,Tenrek introduces tbe next match: Elle Rae Duke squaring off againat Berzerkette.

After that (untapped) match,Woodman reports that Extreme X will indeed face off against The Online Express for the Titles later today in the Penultimate Match.

We then get a vignette from The Sailor Team,4 Sailor Suited fighters of Love and Justice.

Back to Tenrek and Woodman,who are talking to each other a bit. They also mention that it's a shame that it's too late for The Sailor Team to debut,since this is the Final Show.

Once that's all finished They take us to another (recorded) match. This one has "The Missile Wayne Heartland taking on uWo's Rider Michaels.

In the locker room,we see "Roidenator" Haim Einstiener popping Steroid Pills (called power pills) to get stronger. He is attacked by The Completely Unintelligable,"Ragin' Redneck" Mike Dallas.

Back to the commentators,Tenrek introduces the Penultimate match for the AWI Tag Titles,as The Online Express puts their Titles on the line againat Extreme X.

We skip to the Commentators. After talking to each other a bit,they introduce the Main Event: A Triple Threat Match for the AWI Women's Title.

Finally we cut back to the Commentators,where Tenrek closes out the show. She thanks Everyone who's been watching them and hope that AWI left everyone with some good memories.

After Woodman and Tenrek say their goodbyes and give thanks go the fans,we get the credits. We then fade to black. After that the tape is stopped manually.

Animated Wrestling Inc Tape 1 - 1995

Now that the lost footage of Animated Wrestling Inc. has been unearthed...let's share it,shall we.

The First Tape Found.

June - After the intro (which is just tbe logo with some tbeme muaic),We are greeted by Commentators Amara Tenrek and Memphis,who are in a behind a desk in a small studio. Tenrek welcomes us to Animated Wrestling Inc,brought to us by PTV,Public Access Television Channel 56, in Staten Island,NY.

She then introduces herself and Memphis,before talking about todays broadcast. She then introduces Zack Lawrence,who's standing by with The AWI Champion,Mack Trucker,who's set to defend his title against Rider "the Ride" Michaels in 2 weeks at AWI Summer Spectacular,Summer Sizzler.

After the interview,we cut back to the Announce desk,where Tenrek talks more about Summer Sizzler and then gives tbe date and time: Live! Sunday,July 9th. at 6pm.

We then quickly cut back to the interviewing area with Mack Trucker and Zack Lawrence. Mack asks why he isn't getting paid more,he's the champ? Zack plainly tells him the answer: "You're just not that big of a draw!"

We cut back to the desk,where Memphis talks about another match slated for Summer Sizzler '95: Nashville will put his TV Championship on the line against "The Wise Guy" Ray Maccio.

We soon cut to a backstage area,where TV Champion,Nashville gloats about how he's the greatest TV Champion of all time and how he easily beat The Wise Guy before,so Summer Sizziler isn't gonna be any different. After Nashville sings his own prases some more,we cut to another part of the backstage area with "The Wise Guy" Ray Maccio.

Maccio claims that the only reason why Nashville defeated him,was because he had Brian Armstrong and his brothers bused in from Tennessee to beat him up weeks before their last encounter. But promises that this time Nashville's Southern Wrestling Connections Won't help him this time.

After Maccio lays a verbal "Wise Guy" smackdown on Nashville,we cut back to Memphis and Tenrek. Memphis admits that because they're on a budget..a tight budget,they can't affort Great Creative,so they "borrow" gimmicks,storylines,and rivalry ideas from other Wrestling Companies and TV Shows..though they Do modify them a bit. Tenrek introduces the first match of the show: "The Missile" Wayne Heartland going up against Axel Grease.

We then cut back to the announce desk. Unusually,the Matches were cut from the tapes. Why? Who knows! Maybe it had something to do with the recording time. I dunno. Only the Interviews and the bits with the Commentators were archived.

Anyway,Back to Tennoh and Memphis at the Commentators Desk. After talking about the previous match they then talk about another match that will be at Summer Sizzler '95: For the AWI Tag Team championship,Challengers,resident Beavis and Butt-head expies,Jarvis and Bone-Head taking on the Champions,Club Sonic,Tommy and Eric.

Wacky Promos from Both the Champions and the Challengers.

After those are done,we get another unseen match. After that we get a vignette from Shoto,a newcommer that is an over-the-top rip-off of Ryu from street fighter,despite tne vignette constantly saying otherwise. At the end "Totally NOT a Rip-Off of Ryu!" appears on screen.

After that we go back to the commentators desk. Memphis questions whether or not tbey'll be sued by Capcom if tbey bring Shoto here? Tenrek replies that they're a Public Access show limited to only Staten Island,so the chances of Capcom knowing about Shoto are extremely slim. Same with the other companies who's characters they've ripped off.

They then talk about the Women's title match that will be happening at Summer Sizzler '95. As Champion,Sgt. Sonya takes on Big Bertha.

We then cut to Big Bertha in the backstage area making threats to Sgt.Sonya. We then switch to another backstage area with Sgt. Sonya giving her rebuttle. She also promices to make their match "A Total Bootcamp From Hell"

We tben get 2 more matches that were edited out of this tape. But soon after The Wrestle Rangers cut a promo.

Back at the desk,Memphis talks about his upcoming match against his #1 archnemesis,the guy who "burns his peanut butter and banana sandwiches",Brad "Sane Man"Heartland.

We cut to the backstage area where Heartland is being interviewd by Zack Lawrence. Heartland is always embarassed to take on overly cartoony wrestlers,such as Memphis,who he hopes will be their final encounter. He then challenges the winner of the AWI Championship match to a Title Match.

Back at the Announcers desk,Memphis is furious over Heartland's comments and threatens him,all while doing a dance that Elvis Presley used to do. Tenrek tells her fellow commentator to coo, it,before she knocks him down. After Memphis calms himself,Tenrek reveals another match for Summer Sizzler '95. "The Real Canadian" Danny Lund will go one-on-one with his friend,Flex Howitzer.

Backstage,Both men are being interviewed by Zack Lawrence. Both promise a fun and fair match and that after the match,their friendship will remain strong.

Back at the desk,Both Tenrek and Memphis talk about the Howitzer/Lund match and question whether or not their friendship will ever be the same after it. They then talk about the Summer Sizzler Battle Royal,for the right to challenge for the Television Title sometime next month.

We cut to various promos from some of the participents. We have: DJ Cool Clarence and The Freshest King,"The Missile" Wayne Heartland,Axel Grease,Sho Gunn,The Double Dreggs (slash and ozzy),Dexter "The Nerd" Poindexter,Presto the Magician,and The Reaper.

Back at the desk,Amara Tenrek namedrops some other guys who will be in this Battle Royal; Austin,Walter,and Dave of the Wrestle Rangers,Shoto,and the Sumoan. Memphis questions how the company can afford so many people on such a low budget? Tenrek ignores the question and introduces the Main Event: The Sumoan going head to head against Dexter Poindexter.

We cut straight to The final promo of the show. Fonzie Expy,Rider Michaels cuts one about his Championship Match against Mack Trucker.

Finally we cut back to the Announce desk,where Tenrek closes out the show.

We then Hyperjump to the week after Summer Sizzler '95.

July - After the Intro,Amara Tentrek and Memphis greet us at the Commentators Desk. They talk about the events of Summer Sizzler '95,which happened last weekend. Memphis tells her to shut up,cuz he doesn't wanna hear about it. Tenrek tells us anyway: Dexter Poindexter miraculously won the Summer Sizzler Battle Royal. Jarvis and Bone-Head defeat Club Sonic to retain their Tag Titles. "The Wise Guy" Ray Maccio defeated Nashville to become the New TV Champion. Sgt.Sonya dispatched Big Bertha to retain the Women's championship. Memphis got the whooping of the year by "Sane Man" Brad Heartland. Chaos errupted after Flex Howitzer defeated,his now ex-friend,"The Real Canadian" Danny Lund. And Mack Trucker retains His World Championship against Rider Michaels in a close contest.

We then go to the interview area,where Zack Lawrence is with Flex Howitzer. In the interview Howitzer reveals that he betrayed Lund soley because he realized that he was "Too Perfect" to be Lund's friend and Too American to accociate with a Canadian..or Any Foreigner fot that matter. He then starts talking about his "Perfect" Body.

Back at the desk,Tenrek calls Howitzer disgusting,but Memphis disagrees with her and praises Howitzer. After that arguement,the duo introduces the 1st match: Austin and Walter of the Wrestle Rangers going up against DJ Cool Clarence and The Freshest King.

Again. No Matches Are Shown!

After the match,We then go to the backstage area where "The Real Canadian" is cutting his post-Summer Sizzler promo,vowing to destroy Flex Howitzer.

We then get a backstage interview with Dexter Poindexter,the winner of the Summer Sizzler Battle Royal.

Next up,another couple of Untaped Matches.

Back at the announce desk,Tenrek and Memphis comment on the previous match,get interupted by a furious Nashville,and take us to an interview with Brad Heartland,who wants his Title Oppertunity for tbe World Championship.

After we retjrn to the desk,Nashville is gone and so is Memphis. Tenrek explains her missing partner by telling everyone that Both He and Nashville have decided to huntdown and destroy "The Wise Guy" Ray Maccio for tbe sake of "Tennessee Pride". She is joined by Zack Lawrence.

We cut to a backstage promo by Ray Maccio. During the promo,He is assaulted by both Memphis and Nashville. But from out of nowhere,AWI Champion Mack Trucker comes to "The Wise Guys" aide.

Backstage promo by Rider Michaels,who wants a rematch for the Championship. But wants to make it a Jacket for Title Match. He's willing to give up his precious Leather Jacket against Mack Trucker's Gold. However,he is met with opposition from Brad Heartland,who claims that he's next in line for a title shot. Soon the 2 have a stardown.

Back at tbe desk,Tenrek has recieved word that a #1 contenders match next week between Michaels and Heartland. The next match features The Reaper in action.

After 2 more unseen matches,Backstage both Nashville and Memphis cut a promo and in the name of "Tennessee Pride" Challange both Ray Maccio and Mack Trucker to a tag match next week. Ray and Mack cut their own promo accepting the challenge.

And Finally,we head back to the desk,where Tenrek and Lawrence tell the audience that they are out of time and askes to join them next time for some more AWI action. The credits roll and the Tape stops.

Animated Wrestling Incorperated Introduction!

WWE has Southpaw Regional Wrestling,Modern Vintage Studios has Animated Wrestling Incorperated.

Animated Wrestling Incorperated (AWI) is a fictional professional wrestling promotion based in Staten Island and broadcast on Public Access TV. AWI is a (sometimes over exadurated) parody of 80's and 90's Cartoony Wrestling.

Animated Wrestling Inc. debut in March of 1987 and shut down September of 1998. Being a Public Access show (and a public access show only),AWI was low-budget,but it made due with what it had. Because the budget was so low,The AWI could only hold 2 shows a month. Each show was an hour long,though the specials were 2 hours.

The concept of the series is that an Unknown Dude discovered some old tapes of the long-lost (and forgotten) promotion,while digging through a box of old VHS tapes that he found. There were 2 tapes in total. One tape contained content from 1995,the other had content from 1997 and 1998.

Latar,a 3rd tape was found containing content from 1992.

Content from '87,'88,'89,'90,'91,'93,'94,or '96 have yet to be found. AWI is not on Youtube or any other Video site. Infact,footage from this lost (and not very well known) promotion can only be found on these tapes.

Malcomania  - An over-the-top Hulk Hogan expy. Always stands for Country,God,and The 3 Demandments: Say Your Prayers,Believe In Yourself,And Drink Your Milk. Says "Dude" alot.

Herc-Man - An over-the-top Conan the Barbarian/He-Man expy.

The Reaper - A grim reaper that rarely speaks,but when he does,he has deep voice.

Mortician Addams - an over-the-top mortician who sounds like Boris Koloff. Manager of The Reaper.

Heavy Hal - An evil over-the-top Fat Albert. Goes "Yo!Yo!Yo!" instead of Hey!Hey!Hey!

Uptown Brutus - A Harvey Whippleman expy. Manager of Heavy Hal.

"Sane Man' Brad Heartland - An expy of Bret Hart from Texas. He's a serious wrestler,who sometimes questions the sanity of the company.

The Bikers - Prototypical Bikers. Rider Michaels is the cocky-cool dude,while Roadie Jannetty is the dim-witted thug type. This team eventually breaks up and persues singles careers. While Roadie's goes nowhere,Rider is much more successful becoming an expy of The Fonz nicknamed The Ride.

The Einsteiners - Haim and,his brother,Shuki over-the-top Albert Einstein expies. Haim later becomes The Roidenator.

Bayou Barons - Zanetti and Zulu are Voodoo Whichdocters,very over-the-top Whichdoctors. They love causing pain with tbeir spells and curses.

The Cell Blockers - Convict-based team. They are Stabber Lee and Robing Rob.

Chico Fernandez - Name dropped.

The Sumoan - Name dropped.

Witch Wanda - Name dropped.

Elle Rae Duke - A crazy Barefooting Hillbilly. Loves her rifles.
